Tennessee Tech Men’s Basketball team lost its third game to COVID protocols. A Thursday match up against Morehead State.
Athletic Director Mark Wilson said the team dropped below the requisite number of players established at seven.
“Students athletes they want to play, our coaches want to coach and we want to represent Tennessee Tech students, faculty, staff and fans by playing games,” Wilson said. “Certainly not playing the first three OVC games has been a challenge.”
Wilson said the university is hopeful that the men’s team will have the required number of players by Saturday’s game against Eastern Illinois. Wilson said coaches have not been affected by the COVID outbreak.
“We’ve been testing the non-vaccinated once a week on the weeks that they have competition. Those are the protocols that we have had, and of course, we test those that are symptomatic,” Wilson said. ”
All three postponements have been OVC match ups. Wilson said the rescheduling policy includes five Mondays in which games can be played.
“There could be an opportunity if two teams are not playing one some weekend because both of their opponents have COVID, there could be an opportunity we could play some different opponents on Thursdays and Saturdays,” Wilson said.
Thursday’s game is now scheduled for Jan. 31 at 6:00 p.m.
