Tennessee Tech has a new merit scholarship program that incoming freshmen can take advantage for the 2022 fall semester.
Enrollment Management and Career Placement Vice President Brandon Johnson said Presidential Scholars gives more students more scholarships.
“Prior to this program, you had to have a 3.75 GPA to even qualify, and even then, you had to submit scholarship app,” Johnson said. “What we’ve done is by guaranteeing this is really opening up and removing as many barriers as we can.”
Johnson said in order to qualify, a high school student most apply for admission by December 15th. Johnson said on admission, students that have a GPA of at least 3.4 and a 23 ACT score will earn a scholarship.
“We’ll use the scores that are provided to us, your ACT and GPA,” Johnson said. “And if you meet those minimum criteria we will send you a letter to notify you.”
Johnson said anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 can be earned. Johnson said the new program helps towards the long-term goal of achieving an enrollment of 12,000 students.
“Part of that is finding strategies that further engages and makes the Tennessee Tech experience more attractive to prospective students,” Johnson said. “It’s an incredibly competitive market place, but Tennessee Tech has an incredible niche and brand recognition. All due because of the experience our students have here at Tech. We prepare real students for real jobs and they do extremely well in the market place upon graduation. This is an opportunity to open this up a little bit more.”
