TTU Enrollment Numbers Projected To Stay Steady For The Fall

Tennessee Tech is expecting the student population to stay steady this fall semester.

Enrollment Management and Career Placement Vice President Brandon Johnson said the university is projecting similar numbers to this spring with about 10,000 students.

“For our freshman class, we already have over 1,300 students signed up, and we’ll anticipate another 500 600 more to sign up for orientation,” Johnson said. “Transfers are deciding right now and will throughout the summer.”

Johnson said Tech offering in-person visits since July has been a difference maker. Johnson said potential students physically seeing new facilities and visiting Cookeville helped with recruitment.

“Since July, we have seen an incredible amount of interest in visiting campus,” Johnson said. “We were one of the few in Tennessee allowing face to face in-person visits. Some families were just appreciative to have that normal experience on the college search.”

Johnson said virtual options are still available, as well. Johnson said considering the circumstances, the university is in a great place with enrollment numbers.

“A attribute a lot of that to being a caring community,” Johnson said. “We are a community that wants what is best for the students. We just do our best to continue to engage them and encourage them.”

Numbers for summer classes have decreased slightly though. Johnson said this is not a concern of the university since most believe students are just taking a break to regroup after the pandemic.
