TTU Communications Department Will Not Move For Now

After a student protest and hundreds signed a petition against the movement, Tennessee Tech will not move its Communications Program for now.

The university reportedly planned to move the department from the Roaden University Center to Foundation Hall. Students voiced concern about the facility being outdated.

“The university has put any move for the department of communication on hold until all the options can be explored, and we are looking for a suitable resolution.” Chief Communications Officer Karen Lykins said. “The university does not move people into unsafe areas of buildings.”

Lykins said prior to any move the university would ensure the space is renovated, clean and appropriate for intended use. Lykins said no move of the department is scheduled at this time.

The student created petition has received over 800 signatures as well as support from Interim Department Chair Dr. Brenda Wilson stating “I care about Tech’s students.”
