TTU Brings Back 17th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day In-Person

Tennessee Tech students will be setting up their research Wednesday for the 17th annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day.

The event features poster and paper presentations of students’ research. Office of Research and Economic Development Editor Amy Hill said 237 abstracts ranging over seven different colleges will be on display.

“It helps build their communication skills, and it also helps build their critical thinking skills,” Hill said. “It takes the classroom learning and puts hands to it. They get that hands on experience.”

Hill said the event returns in-person after the day was held virtually for two-years. Hill said the excitement can be felt among the student body.

“The students I have interacted with so far in just with registering them and printing their posters, they’re just really excited,” Hill said. “One of the students asked if their parents could come and see their presentation, so they are proud of this.”

Faculty members will judge the presentations Wednesday afternoon in the Hooper Eblen Center. The public will then be welcomed Thursday to view the student’s work from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by an award ceremony.

“This is a record year, and each of these abstracts may have co-authors too, so we have about 374 students participating,” Hill said.

Hill said you can find research over many different topics such as the COVID pandemic, specific musical instruments and even the history of NASCAR. The English department will also hold paper presentations beginning at 9 a.m., on Wednesday in the Volpe Library.
