TTU Ashraf Islam Engineering Building Slated For 2024 Completion

Building pads and framing taking shape at Tennessee Tech’s newest engineering building.

Capital Projects Director Jim Cobb said the some 100,000 square foot Ashraf Islam Engineering Building is progressing as scheduled.

“Erecting steel and they are starting the metal framing and the contractor for six months now has been holding schedule,” Cobb said. “That building is slated for completion in March of 2024.”

The three story building site is where Sherlock Park was once located. It will bring new engineering classrooms, several lecture halls as well as a hub for all students to study. Cobb said despite some winter weather, the contractor has experienced minimal issues.

The project will also include a hay bay “Maker Space.” This area will house a machine shop and fabrication facility that includes welding areas.

The state funded about $54 million with the remainder of the funds provided by large donors including Ashraf Islam.
