TTU Among Lowest Crime Rates Across State According To TBI 2022 Campus Crime Report

Tennessee Tech among some of the lowest crime rates as detailed in TBI’s 2022 Campus Crime Report.

The publication details the volume and nature of crime on Tennessee’s college and university campuses by compiling data submitted to the TBI. Director of News & Public Relations Jonathan Frank said the stats are a testament to the caliber of University Police, the students, and the greater community.

“Tennessee Tech takes a lot of pride in providing a safe place to learn, work, and live,” Frank said. “And I think you see that reflected in this latest report. The data shows that Tennessee Tech remains one of the safest university campuses in the state.”

According to the report, Tech had the second-lowest rate of drug crimes among all public four-year universities in Tennessee for 2022. The most common crime reported was Larceny or Theft, with 65 offenses reported.

Frank said he attributes the low rates of crime to the work of the University Police Department. He said the recent partnership with Putnam County for emergency alerts likely also played a role in increasing communications and public safety awareness.

“The safety of students faculty and staff are always the highest priority, that is always top of mind for university administration,” Frank said. “And we’re very fortunate that we have such talented, dedicated professionals in Unviersity PD who make this their mission. So I think that looking to the future, continuing that will be important.”
