Trout Released At Cane Creek Park For Winter Fishing Opportunities

1,500 rainbow trout released into the Cane Creek Park Lake Wednesday to provide winter fishing opportunities.

Park Manager Dennis Woolbright said it is a partnership between the city and TWRA that began 12 years ago.

“It’s convenient,” Woolbright said. “People that like to trout fish don’t have to travel a long ways, and they come right here in the city. The limit is seven a day. All the trout put in here are legal size to keep.”

Woolbright said the fish come from the Dale Hollow Hatchery. Woolbright said the trout populations are usually at an overflow which is why the hatchery releases them for recreational purposes.

“You just need to have a fishing license with a trout stamp or a sportsman license that will cover it,” Woolbright said.

Woolbright said he recommends fishermen to wait a couple days before casting a line. Woolbright said by then, the trout will be acclimated and spread across the entire lake.

Another release of 1,500 fish is scheduled January 18th.
