Training In Tennessee Closer To Ft. Campbell For Marines

A Marine Corps representative said he wants to bring special forces to White County because their training grounds are getting too crowded.

Al Parker has addressed both the Sparta Board of Aldermen and the White County Commission.

Parker said special forces, including the Navy Seals, Army Green Berets, Marines and Air Force train in Louisiana and Mississippi near Fort Shelby.

“So it’s getting kind of crowded, so we say, hey let’s move to Tennessee. You’ve got Fort Cambpell TF-160 who gives us our air support, they’re right in our back door, so one colonel to another colonel says ‘hey, move up,'” Parker said.

While Sparta city government unanimously approved an agreement with the Marine Corps, the White County didn’t have the item on their agenda. Instead, a number of concerned citizens attended to address the commission.
