Towing Company Launches Toy Drive With Saturday Event

A Cookeville towing company has started a toy drive to make sure underprivileged children wake up with a smile Christmas morning.

Rush Towing’s “Tow Trucks For Tots,” is a collaborative effort of towing companies across the region. Owner Steve Kincaid said all towing company offices in Cookeville serve as drop off location for new toys until December 12th.

“It is amazing in just a short period of time how everybody has come together to be able to bring it together for the community,” Kincaid said. “Not only is it for the kids, but it is to show everybody in our area what the tow community hearts are felt for these kids.”

Kincaid said the toys will go to Putnam students in the Department of Children Services and the TNT and KIDS Matter program.

“There has been a lot of people that have lost their job or had to go from full-time to part-time and there money income is no where near what it use to be,” Kincaid said. “My heart feels for the kids, but not only for the kids but try to help these families.”

The program will kickoff Saturday with the first of three scheduled events. Kids will be able to tour two trucks, enjoy food and other fun events Saturday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. The event takes place from 10am-4pm. The admission: one unwrapped toy.

November 14th at 12:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Mall parking lot and December 5th at noon at the River Church parking lot are the other two events.

Kincaid said the word about this new toy drive has spread across the country.

“I have actually had a company out of New Jersey that actually called and said if it was not such a short, they had multiple companies that would like to join up with us,” Kincaid said. “It being our first one, this is something I feel we are going to do every year for now on. I think it will grow and grow after that.”
