The Reconnect Act has passed the General Assembly and Gov. Bill Haslam is expected to sign it into law.
The bill allows adults to attend the state’s community colleges for free. Vol State Community College President Dr. Jerry Faulkner said it’s a great thing.
“It is absolutely amazing, once again, Tennessee is going to be leading the nation in educational initiatives to make post-secondary education available to all of its citizens,” Faulkner said.
The bill is part of the governor’s Drive to 55 initiative. The goal is to get 55 percent of state residents with some type of post-secondary education.
“We’re just very excited again about the opportunity, this is a great day for the state of Tennessee, great day for the citizens of Tennessee,” Faulkner said.
TNPromise was enacted two years ago. That plan allows high school students to attend community colleges tuition-free.
