If you owe 2016 Cookeville property taxes, you only have a few hours remaining to get them paid.
City Clerk Cathy McClain will turn over all outstanding property taxes to the Putnam County Chancery Court Monday. With offices closed Friday for Good Friday, Thursday will be your last day to pay.
“If you need to pay, I don’t suggest mailing it,” McClain said. “Come by, leave it at the drive-thru window, put it in the dropbox. Thursday’s the deadline.”
The City Clerk Office closes at 4:30pm Thursday.
McClain said the city charges 1.5 percent interest monthly on late property taxes. For outstanding 2016 taxes, that amounts to 19.5 percent interest.
The office began charging interest on outstanding 2017 property taxes March 1.
