This Week Putnam Mayor Appoints Budget Committee, White Commission Considers Private Act

This week in the Upper Cumberland Putnam County takes the first step in creating a new budget for next fiscal year.

Mayor Randy Porter will appoint the budget committee Tuesday. The commission will consider approval of the budget calendar in order to pass the spending plan by July.

The road department will report a road inventory list for commissioners to recognize as well. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.

The Cumberland County Commission will appoint a new Veterans Service Officer Tuesday. Mayor Allen Foster will recommend a candidate for the commission to consider.

The appointment of five county Judicial Commissioners will be proposed. These positions conduct arraignment proceedings, set bail and assign court dates. Business begins at 6:00 p.m.

The White County Commission will request state action to expand adoption jurisdiction in the county. Commissioners will consider a private act to allow adoption in general session court. The by-law amendment must pass the General Assembly before implementation.

Commissioners gather at 6:00 p.m. The Van Buren County Commission also meets Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

In Pickett County, budget discussions start Tuesday. A preliminary spending plan will be introduced to commissioners. Included in that will be talks about rounding up the property tax rate to the nearest dollar. The meeting is set for 6:00 p.m.

Thursday, the Jackson County School Board meets at 6:00 p.m.
