This Week Overton Commission Fills Two Vacant Official Seats

This week in the Upper Cumberland a new commissioner and school board member will be appointed in Overton County.

The county commission on Monday at 5:00 p.m. will consider applicants. The District Three School Board seat left vacant by the late Larry Looper. The District One Commissioner seat also empty due to the resignation of Jean Moore.

Fentress County will continue work on the new fiscal year budget Monday. The special called session will focus on the local option sales tax and the continuation agreement with Jamestown Solid Waste.

The meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. at the county court house.

White County’s Steering Committee A gathers Monday at 5:30. Commissioner Roger Mason will give an update from the Parks and Recreation Department with discussion on a disc golf course.

Members will also review the possibility of implementing a 3-way stop at the Jerry Parker Road and Smithville Highway intersection. The county’s Steering B and Solid Waste committee will also meet later that Monday evening.

On Thursday, the Algood community has the chance to view a newly completed fire truck. The department will hold a dedication and open house at the Algood Fire Hall at 5:00 p.m.

The Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center celebrates its new office in Livingston Friday. Operations will be located at the old Twin Lakes building on South Church Street.

The location will serve as a walk-in agency for victims of abuse. The ribbon cutting begins at 10:00 a.m.
