This Week Overton Commission Appoints Library Director, Van Buren Commissioner Resigns

This week in the Upper Cumberland the Overton County Commission hires a new library director.

Commissioners will consider Judith Cutright to replace Cynthia Julian-Simmons who left for a position with the Putnam County Library System. Cutright previously worked as the Clay County library director.

The commission will also consider several budget amendments for county departments and the school system. The meeting begins Monday at 5:00 p.m. at the courthouse.

White County will host a public meeting Monday to work on its parks and recreation master plan. The county is working with a consultant group to create a 5-10 year outline of projects.

So far under the grant funded initiative, the county completed surveying facilities. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Central Church of Christ on Main Street.

The Byrdstown Board of Aldermen meets at 5:00 p.m. Monday. The Pickett County School Board gathers at central office Monday at 6:00 p.m.

Van Buren County Commissioner Michael Woodlee resigns from his District 1 seat. The commission has named four people as candidates for replacement: Cale Crain, Dusty Madewell, Brian Hickerson and Tim Harris.

Other candidates can be considered by attending the Tuesday meeting 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday, the UCDD/UCHRA Executive Board will discuss two grant opportunities for transitional housing grant and childcare. Executive Director Mark Farley will also update the board on the Substance Abuse Solutions program.

The meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. at the UCDD offices on England Drive in Cookeville.

The Van Buren County Board of Education meets Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the Sparta Board of Aldermen meets at 5:00 p.m. The Cookeville City Council gathers at 5:30 p.m.
