Tennessee Tech Working To Increase College-Going Rates Through Work Of Admissions Counselors

Tennessee Tech using a state Higher Education Commission announcement to energize the University’s efforts in recruiting prospective students at the high school level.

The announcement launches a three-tiered goal to increase the state’s college-going rates. Director of Admissions Frank Tittle said most of those efforts come from the university’s admissions counselors.

“They’re actually on the road constantly doing high school visits,” Tittle said. “Speaking with teachers and counselors in the school about the opportunities we have at the university they might not be aware of.”

Tittle said another recently-implemented incentive to pursue higher education at Tech is the university’s Presidential College. He said they have put out new offerings as far as scholarships go that guaranteed money anywhere between $3,000 to $10,000 just based on ACT scores and high school GPA.

Tittle said they have seen a slight decrease in post-high school enrollment in previous years, and even more in the university’s transfer student population. He said they typically see a transfer pool of about 800 students, but right now that number is around 500.
