Tennessee Promise Scholarship Extends Deadline

The Tennessee Promise Scholarship deadline has been extended to December 1 because of the pandemic.

Putnam County School’s 9-12 Curriculum Supervisor Dr. Sharon Anderson said 90 percent or more of students in all three of the county’s high schools have applied for the scholarship. However, Anderson said the extension gives time to reach the students who have been the hardest to contact during the pandemic.

“The group that we’ve had the hardest time connecting with and making sure they have applied has been some of our remote learners,” Anderson said. “Our counselors have visited in English classes and other classes with students who are in the building, but they have to rely on phone, email and other means of trying to contact our remote learners.”

The Tennessee Promise Scholarship opens the door to a free education at a community or technical college for two years. Anderson said having that option is important because students do not know where their future can take them.

“Plans are subject to change, no matter what your plans are now,” Anderson said. “Tennessee Promise is a great option for our students to have, whether they intend to start in a two year college or technical school.”

Anderson said students in the class of 2021 still need to get their eight hours of volunteering complete by July 1 is they are starting in the Fall semester. Anderson said any student who has not signed up can visit TNachieves.org and fill out the application online.
