A portion of Cookeville’s Tennessee Avenue will be closed beginning Thursday.
Public Works Director Greg Brown said that with utility extension work and heavy truck traffic, the deteriorated road has become unsafe to drive on. He said instead of partially fixing it for it to be torn up for upgrades, they will close it until all the work has been completed.
“We’re just afraid that people going through there in cars could damage their vehicle or have an accident because with all that heavy traffic going the road is deteriorating which we knew it would be,” Brown said. “But there have been some delays in starting that road improvement project. So we thought it best to detour the traffic around that now.”
Brown said that the closed portion will be between Old Stewart Road and Bob Gentry Road. Brown said that there is currently no timeline for the completion of the work.
