Tennessee Tech President Phil Oldham said Governor Bill Lee’s state budget passed last week is good news for the university.
$500,000 were allocated to Tech’s Cybersecurity Education and Research Center. Oldham said that funding will be used for outreach and educational activities for students in the program.
“They specialize in helping students prepare for the workforce in cybersecurity,” Oldham said. “It is a very successful program, and obviously, there is a lot of demand in the workforce for cybersecurity professionals.”
Besides that, the compensation plan for Tech employees was approved with the budget. Oldham said it is looking like an about four percent salary pool raise funded by a combination of state and university money.
“Anytime we can enhance the salaries of our faculty and staff that work so hard particular in this last year,” Oldham said. “They’ve gone above and beyond to support students. Our ability to enhance there salaries and remain competitive is greatly appreciative.”
Oldham said the final numbers on the raises will be worked out.
