Tennessee Tech is hosting the annual Upper Cumberland College Fair on Wednesday.
Director of Admissions Frank Tittle said that the fair will be hosting 33 colleges, universities, and programs.
“I’d like for them to just know what their options are when they graduate from high school,” Tittle said. “And whether they go to a trade school, whether they go to a community college, whether they go to a four-year university, whether they go straight into the workforce, you know. They at least know what their options are when they graduate and I think that’s the biggest thing.”
The college fair over the years has proven to be a big event not only for Tennessee Tech but for the region, Tittle said. This upcoming fair has 19 different high schools visiting, not including the homeschooled students who come out, Tittle said.
“You know, with those students coming to Tennessee Tech and being able to see our campus firsthand, that’s just giving them the opportunity to see what we have to offer,” Tittle said. “And then they eventually, we do have a few from the Upper Cumberland College Fair who eventually end up enrolling in Tennessee Tech and become students.”
Tittle said that one of the biggest things that Tennessee Tech is doing this year to attract students is providing the Presidential Scholars Scholarship. He said that the scholarship is based on the student’s ACT scores as well as their overall school GPA. Tittle said that the Presidential Scholars Scholarship can range anywhere between $3,000 to $10,000 in assistance per year.
“So it’s definitely been successful in the years I’ve been at Tennessee Tech,” Tittle said. “This is my fourth Upper Cumberland College fair and we have consistently had between 1,500 and 2,000 students attend this college fair from the region.”
The college fair is set to be held at the Marc L. Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center. Tittle said that faculty representing many of the departments available at Tennessee Tech will be in attendance for students. Tennessee Tech will also have an admissions table that will help point students toward a department they may be interested in, Tittle said.
