Tennessee Tech set to increase rates for traditional housing by some five percent.
Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Cynthia Polk-Johnson said that the increase will help with needed maintenance to some of the halls.
“We had some renovations happen some years ago and now we really have been looking at our facilities and determining what else needs to happen,” Polk-Johnson said. “So this small increase will help us with some of those major things that we have to do.”
Polk-Johnson said that the increase will help with upkeep and upgrades for the halls, as well as help do some programming. Polk-Johnson said that these will not affect the non-traditional halls, such as New Hall North and South, as well as Tech Village.
Polk-Johnson said that all funds that are collected from the housing rates go directly back into student housing. She said that at the end of the day, a five percent increase might be a burden now but it will benefit students in the long run.
“We know that the small increase will help us move forward with some of the maintenance projects and some of the programming that we desire to offer to our students,” Polk-Johnson said. “We are really focusing on the student experience and making it better for students. We want them to have nice amenities on campus, we want to be competitive when it comes to that, and we think this small increase will certainly help us do that.”
