Tennessee Tech is surveying students to see how the university can improve course delivery in the Fall 2021 semester.
Interim Associate Provost for Online Education and Faculty Excellence Bedelia Russell said the school cannot be shortsighted on student’s needs. She said the goal is to gauge how effectively departments teach in-person and remote students.
“When we are able to get all the results in, then we can distribute that information to the departments,” Russell said. “So that they can individualize and help them individualize and inform their decisions about course delivery.”
Russell said that it is important to get student feedback as soon as possible for course scheduling in the Summer and Fall. She said the university needs to set course schedules by the first of March.
“So that we can finalize decisions on course delivery and options,” Russell said. “The schedule impacts space utilization, it impacts faculty assignments and number. So, we’re wanting to be sure that we are well-equipped and well prepared to help make these students successful.
Russell said that they will use the feedback to prepare and train faculty. She said this is similar to how the Fall survey was used.
“It can help us better train our faculty in diversity of course delivery,” Russell said. “Making sure that we have best practices, and student engagement and ultimately that we are helping that student be successful.”
The survey will ask students to list their class rank and their major. Students will then rank seven different options for learning methods during the pandemic.
