Tech Students Spending Break At Rescue Mission

Spring break for some Tennessee Tech students means relaxing in the sun. For one group of undergraduates, they choose to spend the week at the Nashville Rescue Mission.

The undergraduates are members of campus ministry group Chi Alpha. Nine women and five men joined this week’s efforts. Anna Lucas works as a Chi Alpha Campus Missionary.

“For the past few years, we have been taking students to the Nashville Rescue Mission on spring break,” Lucas said. “We want to expose students to missions opportunities and to people who have different lifestyles than us.”

So that they may work around the clock, the undergraduates stay at the Nashville Rescue Mission 24 hours a day.

“The students that we are taking have been transformed by Jesus in a way where they don’t care to serve themselves over spring break,” Lucas said. “They want to go clean dirty bathrooms and serve meals at five in the morning.”

While the students focus on serving at the Nashville Rescue Mission, Lucas said the undergraduates share testimonies of faith also.

The students’ work continues all week.
