Tech Sees Record Number Of Graduates In 2018

Tennessee Tech University has posted a record number of graduates for a second straight year.

TTU President Phil Oldham said Tech graduated more than 2,500 students this past academic year.

“This is a significant improvement in graduations. We’re not only graduating more students, but we are graduating them sooner so they are incurring less debt,” Oldham said. “They are getting into the work force quicker so they can earn money sooner.”

The previous high was 2,300 graduates about two or three years ago,” Oldham said.

Oldham said Tuesday the graduation production is being noticed around the state.

“Mike Krause, Executive Director of THEC, congratulated us on another record year in terms of graduate production,” Oldham said. “That’s what the state ultimately wants from us, to produce graduates who go on to successful careers.”

Oldham said he hopes to increase graduate production even more by continuing to “fill the pipeline”.

“The challenge for us now is to continue to recruit more students as freshmen and a lot of transfer students as well,” Oldham said.
