Tech Pedestrian Walkway Nearing Completion

With less than a week to the start of the fall semester, Tennessee Tech inching closer to completing the pedestrian walkway project.

Capital Projects Manager Bill Hall said he is hoping to complete the project this fall. Hall said the project had a slight delay but still expects the project to be finished on time.

“Administration asked for some changes to the final product which would add Tennessee Tech branding to it and lettering that said Tennessee Tech,” Hall said. “It’s really going to increase the wow factor of the project.”

Hall said a majority of the walkway is open for staff and students to walk on. Hall said the project affected all forms of traffic on the entire campus during the early stages.

“It’s probably been the most challenging of my career and I’ve been at this for over four decades,” Hall said. “That’s simply because it touched so many places on campus.”

Hall said the school has already received several positive comments from students and visitors about the walkway. Hall said once the walkway is completed it will make Tech a more attractive school.

“When prospective students look at universities and they are going to choose where they can go if all other things are equal they tend to default to the ones that are most attractive,” Hall said.

Hall said the walkway will also make pedestrian traffic on campus safer. The new bricked walkway replaces Peachtree Avenue through the heart of the campus.
