Tennessee Tech calling on the Upper Cumberland community to support the Golden Eagles at Saturday’s football game against Eastern Illinois.
Athletic Director Mark Wilson said this game is critical for the team’s chance to win a share of the OVC Championship. Wilson said the team has worked hard to get to this point and everyone is excited to see the fruits of their labor.
“When the stands are full, student athletes notice that,” Wilson said. “That provides extraordinary energy in the Tucker Stadium, provides extraordinary energy to our student athletes. It just adds to that environment that really helps propel the student athletes to be their best, to play their best.”
Wilson said the first thousand fans to come through the gates will be given a coupon for a Tennessee Tech t-shirt. Wilson said the game starts early due to Tucker Stadium’s ongoing construction, with tailgating starting at 9:00am and kickoff at 12:00pm.
“We are giving extra efforts to try to get people there,” Wilson said. “And we just know it’s going to be a great day. The Golden Eagle Marching Band is so much fun. Cheerleaders, dance team do a wonderful job.”
Wilson said Saturday is going to be a beautiful fall day with offerings for the whole family including the Golden Eagle Walk, inflatable houses, and the tailgate park. Wilson said there is a great sense of pride running throughout the athletes and faculty in the program.
“With all of us together, all those Golden Eagles pulling together with our wings up, we know we can make something special happen,” Wilson said. “This is the opportunity to have the best season we’ve had since 2011 when the Golden Eagles won the share of the championship that year and went on to the NCAAs.”
