The Tennessee Tech Board of Trustees approved two new graduate-level academic programs Tuesday.
The new programs include a master’s in engineering management and PHD in counseling and supervision.
President Phil Oldham said the programs will help Tech get ahead of the competition.
“Not only to get ahead of our competition, but to keep up. We have to aggressively develop academic programs or other institutions will come and get our students that we want to keep,” Oldham said.
Oldham said the university needs to continue pushing good ideas in terms of good academic programs and continually find resources to successfully finance those programs.
“I think these are two great examples of faculty developing really creative programs that meet the needs of students,” Oldham said. “I’m excited about that, but we’ve got to continue to do more of that.”
The master’s in engineering management and a doctorate in counseling and supervision programs are both designed for adult learners to meet state and national workforce needs.
Pending final approval by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the master’s in engineering management program is slated to start Fall 2019 with the counseling supervision beginning in the fall of 2020.
