Tennessee Tech has announced Joe Fisher as its News and Communications Director.
Fisher brings more than four decades of experience, working most recently as director of broadcasting for Vanderbilt Athletics. Fisher said his mission is to take the stories from Tech to another level of recognition.
“I’m just looking forward to trying to finding a way to enhance and reach out, not only to the Cookeville area,” Fisher said. “But to the mid-state and farther beyond to help grow this message about Tech. I think the ground has been set nicely to be able to do that.”
Fisher said the move from Nashville media to Tech was the right fit at the right time because of his familiarity with universities. Fisher said he is catching on quickly to all the opportunities Tech has to offer students and the community.
“I’ve been really impressed already during my brief time on campus with how well connected so many of the areas on campus are,” Fisher said. “With the communications office and the news office and trying to help everybody understand the good stories that need to be told.”
Before his tenure at Vanderbilt, Fisher served as the weekend sports anchor and reporter for WKRN-TV and WSMV-TV.
Fisher was named Tennessee Co-Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association in 2013. The Regional Emmy winner is also a 2018 inductee of the Metro Nashville Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame.
