The governor’s three year transportation plan includes funding for a long awaited road project in Cookeville.
Mayor Ricky Shelton said the state has plans to widen 2.2 miles of Jefferson Avenue from Interstate 40 to Highway 111.
“We I’m very happy to hear that this long awaited project is finally coming to fruition,” Shelton said. “The need for better ways to move traffic in, out, and around our growing city is very obvious especially if you have been on our roads. This enhanced and improved road will be a tremendous asset to Cookeville and the entire region.”
Construction is scheduled to begin by 2020 and it’s estimated to cost more than $29 million.
