TDOT Grant Gives Jackson County Airport New Tractor

Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said his airport got exactly what it needed.

A new tractor will keep the grounds clean of brush and small trees, which has been an issue for Jackson County since 2019. Heady said this equipment came together with help from the state.

“We’ve been having a difficult time keeping that clean, so TDOT Aeronautics called and said ‘hey we would like to give you some airport maintenance ground equipment to help with this problem,’ and they offered me a grant,” Heady said.

The TDOT grant is for $65,000 and Jackson County matched $16,000. The total price for the new tractor is $80,000 and Heady said it will be delivered this week.

“Hix Brothers Tractor out of Cookeville won the bid and they’re gonna be delivering the tractor this week,” Heady said.

A side-arm bush hog, pull-behind bush hog and front end loader will be used on the new tractor. Heady said keeping foliage down is essential to airport operations.
