Three UC Counties With Higher Unemployment

While unemployment dropped in 90 of the state’s counties in February, three Upper Cumberland counties saw slight increases. The Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported increases in Dekalb, Overton and White Counties. Smith County’s unemployment remained unchanged. Unemployment Falls Across The UC

Unemployment fell below double digits in every Upper Cumberland county last month except Dekalb County. Warren County saw the biggest decrease in July as unemployment dropped 2.5 percent to 9.9 percent. Dekalb County’s July rate stands at 10.3 percent, but that’s down 1.2 percent from June. Unemployment dropped between 6 and 8 percent across Dekalb, Van Buren and Warren Counties in May, the counties hit hardest by COVID 19 job losses. Warren County and Dekalb County posted two of the state’s highest unemployment rates in April according to data issued by the Tennessee Department of Labor. 225,000 Unemployment Claims Paid Statewide

The state paid out two weeks of unemployment benefits to some 225,000 individuals during this week.
