Cookeville Public Works is working on a plan to widen West Stevens Street in an attempt to help with an increase in traffic flow. Sparta’s sewer pumping station at Wilson Sporting Goods delayed work until late-July. Public Works Director Dillard Quick said delays have been caused over the demand for the equipment. Sparta Police Getting New Vehicle

The Sparta Board of Alderman Thursday approved the $33,000 purchase of a new Police Pursuit vehicle for the police department. Police Chief Jeff Guth said this purchase will replace the department’s 15 year old SUV. The board also approved purchasing a new Special Service Vehicle for the Public Works Department.
