T-DOT expects to have the Highway 56 Overpass at the Smithville exit open on Tuesday. T-DOT spokesperson Jennifer Flynn said that crews are installing traffic control barriers on the overpass today, allowing for two narrowed lanes on the overpass. Jackson County is conducting a corridor study to increase safety and economic development along highway 56. Corridor studies develop long term plans for roadways and adjacent land. A three-vehicle accident along Highway 56 in Putnam County Friday night resulted in injuries to a 20-year-old driver. The accident happened around 9:30pm Friday night when a Ford Ranger driven by 65-year-old Lonnie Burgess failed to slow for two stopped vehicles.
