The Highway 127 widening project will be in the utility relocation phase for the next 12 months.
T-DOT Spokesperson Rae-Anne Bradley said the widening will stretch 4.87 miles from North of I-40 to North of Potato Farm Road in Cumberland County. Bradley said motorists will need to watch their speeds and check for signage during utility relocation.
“During the relocation of utilities there might be some intermittent flagging activities as needed,” Bradley said. “Those should be very sporadic and only limited to very minor delays and those will only be done as necessary.”
Bradley said the first 2.1 miles of the project will create a five lane highway, with a dedicated center turn lane. She said the remaining portion will be a divided four lane highway.
“There will be some locations where utilities cannot be moved until phasing allows,” Bradley said. “The next noticeable construction activity, beyond utility work, will be the beginning of grading operations throughout.”
She said other work motorists will notice includes drainage pipe installations and construction of a concrete culvert at Scott Creek. Bradley said the Highway 127 widening is a $63 million project, completing June 30 2025.
