T-DOT Inspection Temp. Closes Two Overton Bridges

Two Overton Co. bridges are temporarily closing after a bi-yearly T-DOT inspection.

Shiloh Bridge between Dry Hollow Road and Highway 84 and Windle Bridge just west of West McCormick Road are currently closed.

Overton County Highway Supervisor James Norrod said each structure needs diaphragms installed, which go between the girders and support the bridge deck.

“One thing they requested in order to keep it open was was diaphragms in between the beams,” Norrod said. “On Shiloh there is two spans. (…) On Windle, I think there is three.”

Norrod said each bridge is moderately used and will cause for some alternate routes to drivers. Norrod said the project will cost the county about $30,000.

“The one in Shiloh it is a remote area, but a lot of people use it,” Norrod said. “They do Windle, too. Windle they got a little better way to go around than they do on Shiloh.”

T-DOT gave the county 14 days to add the diaphragms and prevent closures, but Norrod said this was not enough time. Norrod said there is no time frame for completion at this time due to weather.

“I do have things in the work to get the diaphragms in as quick as possible and get them back open,” Norrod said. “Both bridges are slated to be rebuilt. Windle will probably be first.”
