Supreme Court Denies Riley’s Appeal

The State Supreme Court has denied the appeal of a Putnam County Man convicted of felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

Cookeville Police stopped Martin Riley III in August, 2018 for a broken headlight. Riley stopped initially, but fled the scene when officers asked him to step out of the vehicle. Riley was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Supreme Court denied Riley’s request for appeal. Earlier, he had asked for relief from the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals arguing the jury did not receive instructions on a statutory defense available under Tennessee Code Annotated section 39-16-603(b)(2). The Court of Appeals denied Riley’s request.
