Summer Construction Projects Nearing Completion For Clay Schools

Clay County Director Of Schools Diana Monroe said the summer’s construction projects across the school system are moving toward completion.

The projects include new bathrooms at Celina K-8 School, with the old facilities being converted to storage and an upgrade to the faculty lounge. New electrical panels have also been installed. New flooring installation continues at Hermitage Springs School.

“All the construction has really gone well,” Monroe said. “We’re hoping and praying to have everything finalized prior to starting of school. We may lack a little in that, but they’re really working hard to get out of the building before school starts.”

The new modular for use at the K-8 School arrived this week.

Monroe asked the school board members to attend the upcoming open houses to see the upgrades the school system has made.

Board Chair Benji Bailey said the goal is to have plans back for the K-8 kitchen project by the August meeting, with the hope of having bids back for the September meeting.

“We might consider moving back our August meeting, just so we can accomplish that, because the further we go, the harder it is to get started and accomplish what we’re trying to accomplish here, meet the time parameters with the funding as well,” Bailey said.

In other business, the board officially welcomed Michael Dickerson as the new principal of Clay County High School and Donatta Birdwell as the new principal at Hermitage Springs School.
