Step Toward Fixing Baxter Drainage System Taken

Baxter took the first step toward fixing a portion of the town’s storm drainage system.

The drainage ditch through the town has been an issue for at least five years. Street and Sanitation Director Travis Clark said the worst part is between 3rd and 4th Avenue.

“I applied for a community grant through Twin Lakes,” Clark said. “They’ve kinda helped us get started with maybe closing that up and putting some catch basins in. We’re probably going to do tile all the way through 3rd and 4th.”

Clark said the storm drainage issue begins at 6th Avenue South and continues down Main Street. He estimates funds for materials to be some $45,000.

“It’s just where the water has to get back to the creek, and the way it’s set up now it goes underneath the railroad tracks,” Clark said. “So, it has to be pretty deep to go underneath the railroad track there in Baxter.”

Clark said it could be up to three months before he hears whether or not Twin Lakes has accepted the grant application.
