The state’s mobile household hazardous waste collection service will be in Overton County Saturday.
County Executive Steven Barlow said it will be located at the county’s fairgrounds from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
“We have this collection once a year,” Barlow said. “Things that you consider household hazardous waste. That is defined as corrosive, flammable, toxic or reactive materials.”
Typical items disposed include cleaning fluids, pesticides, fluorescent lamps, lithium and button batteries. Barlow said finding places to dispose of these items safely within the county can be difficult. Barlow said that’s why this event is important to host for residents.
“Just stuff people have that thy may not know how to get read of and they’ve always been told they can’t through this away, but now, they have the opportunity,” Barlow said.
Other items that can be disposed include swimming pool chemicals, paint thinner, medication and needles. A person does not need to live in the county to participate.
