State Trooper Injured While Working Crash

A State Trooper suffered injuries while investigating a crash in Putnam County Monday morning.

The incident happened on Interstate 40 eastbound at the 270 mile marker.

Officials said Trooper Michael Robertson had stopped to investigate a single-vehicle non-injury crash involving 26-year-old Kaci Scudder of Carthage.

A crash report said a Hyundai Elantra rear-ended Robertson’s patrol vehicle as he sat inside. The impact caused the patrol vehicle to strike Scudder, who was standing outside gathering information about the initial crash.

The report identified the driver of the Hyundai as 25-year-old Mariah L. Martinez of Hendersonville.

Scudder, Robertson, and Martinez received treatment at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Doctors eventually released all three individuals from the hospital.

The report said charges are pending against Martinez.
