Van Buren County has received $200,000 in state funding to help handle the demolition of the Fall Creek Falls inn and conference center.
County Mayor Greg Wilson said the funding will be recurring until the completion of the new inn and conference center.
“The county will be losing a lot of revenue from that through the hotel/motel tax,” Wilson said. “The state is kind enough to give that $200,000 to make up that difference.”
Wilson said half of the money will go to the education system and the other half to the general debt service fund.
State officials said the project plans include demolishing two structures and building one inn with roughly 85 rooms, a restaurant, and conference center.
The project puts 31 full-time and potentially 27 part-time jobs at stake. Officials said those workers will receive severance, tuition assistance at state higher education institutions, and potential unemployment benefits.
The project expected to take two years to complete.
