State Approves Putnam’s 4th District Voting Location

The state election coordinator has approved Caney Fork Baptist Church as a new voting location for Putnam County’s fourth district.

Election Commission Chair Phil Adams said state approval was needed since the location is outside the voting precinct by about three miles.

“That’s what we were hoping for,” Adams said. “We’ll put it in the record that we received this letter from Mark Goins. We now have approval to use Caney Fork Baptist.”

Adams said all that remains is a contract signature from the church. Adams said he plans to deliver the contract this week and also conduct an ADA access survey while at the site.

Commissioner David Dukes said the church has two suitable voting areas for August.

“It’s going to take you (Adams) to make sure they are ADA compliant,” Dukes said. “One of them is kind of weird how you get to it, but the facility itself I think will work just fine.”

Election Administrator Michelle Honeycutt said with early voting starting next week, the contract needs to be signed soon. The commission has requested a 10-year agreement with the church.

The Poplar Grove precinct has voted at the Poplar Grove Community Center but outgrew the location.
