The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will hold a law enforcement memorial Monday.
The memorial service will kick off National Police Week.
Lieutenant Rick Baker said law enforcement agencies from across the Volunteer State will be attending to the memorial.
“We’re going to have all of the different vehicles representing cities and counties across the state,” Baker said. “We are going to come to the old courthouse and surround it with a sea of blue.
Baker said a memorial service will be held on the lawn of the old courthouse for every fallen officer in the state of Tennessee.
“People may not realize, but we have had 517 officers killed in the line of duty in the state of Tennessee alone,” Baker said.
Law enforcement from across Tennessee will be in Putnam County for five days as Cookeville hosts the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Officers’ Association Spring Conference.
The law enforcement memorial begins at 5:45 p.m. Monday.
“It’s going to be a time when we are going to honor the families and the memory of the officer that payed the ultimate sacrifice,” Baker said. “People that don’t know law enforcement don’t understand what we see and hear every day. It truly is a calling.”
