A Crossville Police K9 has died after being stabbed by a suspect who led police on a high speed chase Wednesday morning.

K9 Officer Cain died from his injuries this morning at U.T. Veterinary Medical Center.

28-year-old Dustin Lee Dixon is behind bars at the Cumberland County Jail facing multiple criminal charges.

Authorities said the pursuit began around 4:20 a.m. when deputies responded two reports of a semi that side swiped a car on Highway-68 near Grassy Cove. Dixon allegedly swerved into the path of a Cumberland County patrol vehicle that responded to the scene.

Dixon led Crossville Police and Cumberland County deputies to a dirt road off Genesis Road, where he crashed the semi into a tree and ran into the woods.
