Spencer Mayor Does Not Want To Lose Ownership Of City’s Water System

The Spencer Mayor and Board of Aldermen will not consider giving ownership of its water system to the Warren County Utility District at this time.

The Utility District Board sent a letter to the city stating it would only be interested in owning the water system. That after the previous city mayor proposed a management contract.

Mayor Alisa Farmer said the offer will be put on hold to explore other options.

“I want to do that personally as they mayor,” Farmer said. “I’m not ready right now to just give our utilities up to another utility district without exhausting all of our options.”

Farmer said the city’s engineer firm has reached out to the Warren County Utility District to schedule a meeting. Farmer said if the city shows enough infrastructure improvements and adjusts rates, ownership could remain with the city.

Farmer said she has challenged the current Aldermen and city staff to make the improvements needed. Farmer said losing ownership of the water system would be a “last ditch effort.”
