Spay-Neuter Clinic to Hold Fundraiser

Twelve years and over 53,000 surgeries after being told it wasn’t necessary, the Putnam County Humane Society’s Spay/Neuter Clinic is still going strong.

This year its annual fundraiser is Thursday night from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fazoli’s in Cookeville.

Jeremy Richter, Companion Animal Team Leader for Putnam County’s Disaster Animal Response Team, said the clinic’s event is important this year because of the damage it took in last week’s storms.

“Their annual fundraiser that was already planned is called a Spay-ghetti Dinner,” Richter said. “We want to get the word out so that as many people who want to support animals and want to support the clinic can possibly come.”

The clinic’s founder, Linda Clemons, also lives in the affected area. Although she became separated from her pets, all were later found alive.

“From our reports, she is doing alright,” Richter said. “She has been able to be reunited with her animals, and we’re very thankful for that.”

Richter said Putnam County DART wanted to make sure that the clinic’s needs weren’t forgotten amid the outpouring of help the Upper Cumberland has received.
“We recognize there is a large pet overpopulation,” Richter said. “Spaying and neutering is a great way to control that.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $10 at the door.
