Three separate weekend burglaries are under investigation in Cumberland County.
Just before midnight Friday, deputies responded to a home on Critter Crossing, where the homeowner reported a bedroom window broken and several firearms taken from his bedroom closet. The weapons were valued at approximately $4,200. A suspect has been identified and an investigation is underway.
On Sunday morning, deputies responded to a residence on Smith Mountain Road in Rockwood. The home was reportedly “extremely ransacked,” with every drawer and cabinet having been opened and dumped out. Two rifles, ammunition and three tools borrowed from a neighbor were taken. The suspect or suspects stacked concrete blocks and a plastic tote against the house to gain entry to a rear window; the garage had also been gone through. There are no suspects at this time, but an investigation is ongoing.
And on Sunday afternoon, a Claysville Road resident reported several boards were pried off the back of her storage shed; a kerosene heater stored in the shed was taken. Nothing else appears to be missing and there are no suspects.
An attempted burglary was reported Friday morning, when the latch on a storage building on Highway 70 North was forced open.
