Sparta’s Bluegrass On The Square Cancelled For June

Sparta’s annual Bluegrass On The Square concert is cancelled for the second month in a row.

This event takes place every third Friday evening from May to October. Organizer Angie Wilhite said depending if the case numbers continue to rise, it could be cancelled in July as well.

“We’ll just take it month by month,” Whilhite said. “If the cases continue to increase and the dangers are still there, we’ll play it safe and not have the people together to take the chances.”

Wilhite said a Nashville band was scheduled to play this month, but they cancelled due to pandemic concerns. She said the event would have been cancelled anyway out of safety precaution.

Bluegrass On The Square has been an annual concert event for over 10 years. Wilhite said the event usually attracts an older audience.

“As soon as we start having this back, having the groups back again and open it up to the public again, we’d love for anybody and everybody to come out and support the bluegrass groups that we have to play,” Wilhite said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Wilhite said the event is free to attend.
