Sparta Tree Board To Present HWY 111 Landscaping Project To TDOT

The Sparta Tree Board has the preliminary design prepared for a $30,000 landscaping project coming to the main off ramps on Highway 111.

Board Member Donna Fare said the next step is to present the plans to TDOT for approval.

“We would like to have everything finalized so that we can plant in the late fall and other plants in the spring,” Fare said. “Our goal is to have a finished project by mid-spring in 2023.”

Fare said the focus of the vegetation is color, so that the green spaces have something blooming in each season. Fare said she sees the work as a complement to the newly installed gateway monuments.

“I appreciate the city recognizing that we really need to beautify,” Fare said. “It really pleases me that the city is not only interested in our natural beauty but also emphasizing a few areas in the city that we can put more color and concentration in high visited areas.”

The Board of Aldermen approved the project earlier this month. Fare said if the plan gets state approval, the Tree Board would bring the project back to the city for final approval.

Former Mayor and Tree Board Member Jeff Young first proposed the project in May.
