Sparta residential leaf pickups began Monday.
Public Works Director Dillard Quick said participating residents need to rake their leaves to the edge of your yard for street workers to collect.
“It’s just one benefit that the city offers,” Quick said. “What we require is for the leaves to be placed at the edge of the road. We can’t work on people’s property. Just keep the sticks and rocks out of it. If you have sticks, just put it in a separate pile.”
Quick said not separating the materials can cause damage to the blade of the leaf machine. Quick said if you want to be added to the route, call the public works department at (931) 738-2281.
Quick said leaves are vacuumed up by the machine, shredded and then disposed on city property to decompose. Algood’s city leaf pickup is set to begin next week.
